Confession of a (Used To Be) Movieholic [Part 3]

People might say to you, that money isn’t everything. But if you are a twitterholic or a 9gagger, then you might have stumble upon the saying:

Yes, money can’t buy happiness but I’d rather cry in a Ferrari”.

Despite being a humour and whatsoever, we must have somewhat thought about that sometimes. Because it is a pain truth.

So, I have to warn you, don’t be a movieholic. Like, forever. Unless if you’re the only child of the Petronas station’s owner (but i bet you’re not!). This addiction is not cool at all. What’s cool? Being rich and addict-free.

One of the rough moment I can share with you was about what happened in December of 2011. My savings from the school’s allowance of RM300 was all out. No extra savings for rainy days. Thanks to all the great movies that sets out all year round. Therefore, by December, my pocket was quite empty. On second thought, it is empty!

Asking for money from my parents was definitely not a good decision. The last thing I want is to be grounded from watching movies. Dude, if I did get grounded at that time, I’m most probably will not be blogging right now and instead I would be watching from above (if you know what I mean). That is the measurement of  how ‘holic’ I am with watching movies in my past. Told you, it ain’t cool.

Anyway, what did I do just to pull through this? Have I ever told you that I have this awesome guitar signed by more than 40 local bands guitarists that I’ve got and collected in many gigs? They are so pure angelic that you won’t even dare to let it be touched by anyone else but you. Yeah, not even your mum! And I bet by now you would know what I did? Lol.

I took the lovely guitar from my ‘safe’ and went by taxi to the Ampang Cashconverter and to God I hope and wish that this best guitar in Malaysia will just be there until I’ve got back some money from my future life. After all, it will most probably worth like RM2000 or something, and hopefully no one have the keen and interest of spending so much on it. But when I finally reached there, not only the guitar just worthed for RM200, the man at that place said it was a piece of junk. I was so furious that I went out with the guitar to the cab and suddenly the driver look at me and gave the face. And what a fate; the fare! I’ve completely forgot about it. I thought with the RM2000, I will have enough money to cover the taxi and have a jolly day but now for RM200?

Cash Converter -_-

My hands were then tied (analogically). I had to. Therefore, I went inside with my tears rolling (this one is literally) because I’m giving my precious to the jerk who doesn’t even know the values of the most awesome guitar in the world. Like really, are you dumb or something? Not to know who Hujan and Pesawat are? Dude, you must be living in a cave when you said, “Hujan and Pesawat? Don’t bluff me. Rain and plane are not a living thing, you idiot! It can’t be signing guitar”. You can just imagine what kind of swear words wandering in my thoughts at that moment.

Basically, I’ve got my RM200 and paid almost RM100 for the cab’s ride from Bukit Jalil to Ampang and then to Ampang Point. With the remaining RM100, i went on for a movie’s marathon and even watched Avatars in 3D. I did spend quite a lot of money for popcorns that day. Just to throw it into the screen when shits get real. Hahah. So, “BalingPopcorn”, right? The most satisfying RM100 I’ve spent in my life.

p/s : To the Ampang Cashconverter’s dude, I would say the 'F' word to you right now, if this was not an assignment. So, be thankful and do get a life.
pp/s : Sorry there were no pic of the guitar. As you can guess, someone bought that 'junk'. Perhaps for RM2000 B) Hahah.

Till then, toodles.

How Brave Are You

How BRAVE are you.....?

Merida

Source : http://station79.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/brave_1_1600.jpg

The movie BRAVE was one of the most anticipated movie with a rating of 4.5 out of 5 by most of its viewer. In a prologue, we see Lord Fergus and Lady Elinor in a forested area, celebrating the birthday of their young daughter, Merida. Though Elinor happily plays with Merida, she grows perturbed when Fergus gives the little girl her own bow and set of arrows.

As Merida tries to hit a target, one of the arrows sails off into the forest nearby. Merida runs off and retrieves it, but soon encounters a glowing blue willo-the-wisp. Going back to her parents, she tells what she saw, and her mother explains that they can lead a person to their destiny.

Suddenly, the mood is broken as an enormous black bear enters the camp grounds. Merida and her mother quickly take leave as Lord Fergus and his men fight against the bear.

Time passes, and we see that Lord Fergus has lost his leg to the bear. In the time that has passed, Lady Elinor has given birth to three mischievous boys (triplets), and Merida is now a teenager. While her mother wants her to be proper, Merida is moreso intent on practicing archery, and journeying off in the forest.

One evening, a messenger brings word that the 3 neighboring clans have accepted the offer to fight for Merida's hand in marriage. Naturally, the young woman is not at all happy with this situation. Elinor explains to her daughter that the clans must be kept in harmony, or chaos may reign. She relates the story of how the clans were descended from four brothers, but one of them wanted more power than the others, and caused the balance of power to crumble. Even so, this does little to quell Merida's resentment of the betrothal.

The three clans soon arrive, and Lords MacGuffin, Macintosh, and Dingwall arrive with each of their sons. Per tradition, each of the first-born of the clans will fight in the event that the Princess chooses. This causes Merida to perk up, and she eagerly suggests archery.

When it comes to the sport, almost none of the sons are good at the sport, but everyone is shocked when Merida appears before everyone, claiming that since she's a first-born as well, she'll be 'fighting for her own hand.' Elinor demands Merida stop, but she defies her mother, and makes a bulls-eye on each of the targets.

Naturally, Elinor feels angry and humiliated at this, and both mother and daughter have a heated conversation in her room later on. Merida claims she does not want to be like her mother, and in anger, slashes a tapestry depicting the family, slicing a hole between her and her mother in the piece.

Upset by this as well, Elinor loses her temper, and throws Merida's bow in a fireplace nearby. Upset by this, Merida flees the castle. Unseen by Merida, her mother regrets what she has done a few moments later, and manages to retrieve the bow from the fire.

Merida flees to the forest, where she comes across a circle of stones, and several willo-the-wisps. Following them, she finds a small cottage inhabited by an old woman. The old woman claims she is just a wood carver, but Merida soon realizes she's actually a witch, when she notices an enchanted broom, and the woman's crow (which can talk!).

Merida eagerly asks for a spell to change her mother, but the witch refuses, claiming she did a spell once before, and regretted it. However, Merida gets her to reconsider when she agrees to purchase all her wood carvings. The offer is too much to resist, and the witch brews a concoction that produces a small pie. Merida is instructed to give it to her mother, and she eagerly ruses off to do so.

Returning to the castle, King Fergus is doing his best to quell the Lords after the events of the tournament. Merida encounters her mother in the kitchen, and eagerly gives her the pie, but after one bite, Elinor claims she does not feel well.

Merida happily leads her to her chambers, but soon her happiness that her mother will change turns to shock...when her mother turns into a black bear!

Knowing that King Fergus will surely kill Elinor, Merida enlists the aid of her brothers to distract Fergus and the Lords, while she sneaks her mother out of the castle, and back into the forest.

The two manage to find the witch's hovel, but find it is now empty. A message left for Merida tells that the Witch has gone away until the next Spring, and that the spell will become permanent within 2 sunrises. However, if Merida wants to reverse the effects, she has heed some specific words, in regards to 'mending.' Merida is unsure just what this means, and the two sleep in the woods that evening, before having breakfast in the morning.

Merida manages to catch some fish for her mother, but when her mother demands more, Merida tells her mother she will need to catch them herself. The mother and daughter bond over this method, but when her mother wanders off into the woods, Merida chases after her. However, upon finding her, her mother suddenly attempts to attack Merida, before returning to normal. With less than 24 hours, it seems that if they do not find a way to reverse the spell, Elinor will lose her humanity, and become a bear forever!

As they wander in the woods, the two come across the willo-the-wisps again, and follow them. They are lead to a high mountain, and the ruins of a great castle. Inside, Merida finds a stone tablet depicting 4 men, with one of them separated from the group. Soon, Merida realizes that she is in the castle in the legend her mother told her about, and soon makes the connection:

The brother who attempted to seize power from his siblings went to the witch, and her spell turned him into a bear...powerful and stronger than his brothers, but he was unable to change back, and became a rampaging beast, the same one who took Lord Fergus' leg!

Suddenly, the bear emerges from the darkness and attempts to attack Merida. Elinor manages to save her daughter, and the two head back to the circle of stones. However, Merida is now sure what needs to be done. The witch's spell mentioned mending, and Merida feels that if she can mend the tapestry she cut the day before, her mother will be saved.

Anticipation Towards Spidey

Spiderman: The Untold Story will roll in cinemas today! As a die-hard fan of our webby superhero Spiderman, I cannot wait to munch mouthfuls of sweet popcorn while the movie rolling. This time, the character of Spiderman is played not by Tobey MaGuire, but the much younger Andrew Garfied. The heroin on the other hand, replacing Kirsten Dunst is the beautiful Emma Stone.

Andrew Garfield

Watching the trailer is enough to give me goosebumps all over, and seeing the Spiderman swinging and jumping from building to building gets me all excited! I'm so glad Spiderman is back on the big screen, as I've been longing to watch him again since the last movie. What even makes me even more excited is the new face of Spiderman himself. Andrew Garfield is the new Spiderman, alongside his real-life girlfriend Emma Stone. I'm sure Andrew can perform just as awesome as Tobey did in the last movies. My faith is strong with Emma Stone too, playing Gwen Stacey as the heroin replacing Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane.

In this movie, Peter Parker will discover the truth about his father's secrets that have been kept from him. But in order to do that, Peter must face Dr Curt Connor or the Lizard. Will he be able to defeat the villain this time? What is happening to his romance with Gwen Stacey (Emma Stone)? And will he be able to unfold the mystery of his past life? Get your popcorn ready folks, the cinema is about to get sticky!

Confession of a (Used To Be) Movieholic [Part 2]

Do you believe me that advertisements are one the reason I was what I was? They are the one who should be blamed. Nowadays, advertisements of movies are everywhere. When i’m in the car, i could see the gigantic blue billboards of Avatar. When i arrived at school, the ambient school bus stop with Jaden Smith in his karate suit (just another form of advertisers taking advantages as if it has something to do with school’s bullying) caught my eyes and sometimes, when i’m waiting for my mom to fetch me after school is over, out of nowhere, a pamplet of Twilight Saga Breaking Dawn just flew to me face. Yeah, I’m not joking. This happened to me once.

Avatar's Billboard
Source : http://a1.img.mobypicture.com/75a26eff124104b3e88809313067f838_view.jpg

That is what kind of advertisement I saw daily just in my going-to-school’s journey. Beyond that time, I just hopes that all of the ads stopped existing. They kept on coming as if the air. And unfortunately for me, movies are my air. I cannot breathe without them. Literally. I have asthma and when I got nervous, my heart rate was not in their right paces. My heart beats and thumps like nothing you could ever imagine. And movies were the only drugs to cure them.

Back to the story. After getting to Mid Valley. I would be rushing to GSC (Golden Screen Cinemas) on the third level and I would just go straight away to line up. While lining up, then I would make decisions of what movie to be watched. Although I am pretty sure that it won’t be taking too long because usually the night before, I would have read reviews from premier screening’s audiences just to make comparisons of which to watch first. But in the end, it does not really matter, since I would always have tomorrow to watch, what I left.

Mid Valley Megamall is the most easiest to be reached

Basically, that is what I have to go through daily. I would usually be arriving at home around 8 o’clock. Just in time for me to have some bath and dinner before the tuition starts at 9.00pm. That was mostly all about times. So, today, I am going to share you my time management and budgets as a movieholics.
Summarising my time management, here you goes:

14.00               : School’s over and journey to Mid Valley starts
                             15.00               : Arriving at destination
                             16.00-16.30     : Movie starts
                             18.00-18.30     : Movie ends
                             19.30-20.00     : Back at home

And here is my budget daily (unless stated otherwise) :

Taxi’s Fare      : From school to Bukit Jalil’s train station [RM 11.00]
: From Bukit Jalil’s train station to house [RM 9.00]
Touch & Go    : For LRT and KTM [RM 100 each month]
Movie’s Ticket: Usual Adult Ticket [RM 13.00]

Don’t get too shocked. Yup, indeed it was a costing lifestyle. There are much more than what you have seen. And I am not one of those fancy guys with Merc and so on. I said earlier, just a regular guy from a regular family. Do you know, how much was my monthly allowance? It was only RM300. So, how did I managed to pull through? Stay tune for the next part.

Till then, toodles.

Yours Truly,

A (Used to Be) Movieholic

Confession of a (Used To Be) Movieholic [Part 1]

I have a confession. I was a movieholic. I mean it. I really do. You might be ROTFL (rolling on the floor laughing) right now, but if you were me, you would know the suffering I've been through and you would be wiping your tears of sadness instead of tear of laugh, just now.

If you were my best friend (the kind of friend who would know what colour of boxer I'm wearing today), then you would know that I am pretty much a regular guy from a regular family. My needs is fulfilled and my wants is granted on some occasions.

But since I have this so called addiction of watching movies where I've got it from my best friend (No, I may not know what colour of your boxer because... you're wearing underwear! Hahah), I have suffered through some rough conditions. Most of them were indeed time and materials. Keching keching!

My wallet almost empty =.=

Having to watch movie every single day after the school is over was not a fun thing. I have to catch a cab to get to the nearest train station in my area which is the Bukit Jalil’s station. Then, I had to go through about thirteen stations with two transits at Masjid Jamek and KL Sentral before arriving to my destination which was Mid Valley Megamall, the most easiest and accessible mall with a cinema for me.

It was a hectic journey. Believe me
Source : http://www.malaxi.com/map_transit.html

Seriously, it was not that fun. If I was a bad boy, then it might not be as hard as it was. I can always just played truant so I won’t be needing to rush with times and I can always just run away after the cab arrived so there would not be any fare. But I’m not that kind of person. I am an obedient citizen and an excellent student who believes in God and of course, karma. What goes around comes around, aite?

So, everyday, I have to hurry up after the class is over to make my two-way journey from cab to train and I have to pay for the fares. So, change your mindset right now. Being a movieholics was a not as fun and as easy as it might seems. It was more than that. It was an addiction. And it is hard to control.

Instead of carrying on with the story, I think that’s all for now. I will continue this later as my class is about to start. Do wait for the coming parts.

Toodles.

Yours Truly,

 A (Used to Be) Movieholic
